Ioannis Arabatzis, Managing Director, NanoPhos SA Ioannis Arabatzis

Dr Ioannis Arabatzis has dedicated his professional track inventing clever materials that solve every day problems. After winning the 1st prize in the European Business Plan Competition held in Stockholm in 2005, he is the founder, managing director and legal representative of NanoPhos SA, a company that develops nanotechnology driven formulations for satisfying the needs of the building/construction industry.

Dr Arabatzis has organized the R&D department of NanoPhos SA, as the primary think/experimentation tank for New Product Development. Apart from his research experience, he is interested in quality and process management, legislation issues especially in the field of nanotechnology and economic impact of nanotechnology, nanotechnology innovation policy, innovation indicators and entrepreneurship in nanotechnology.

He is national contact point for the nanotechnology workgroup of CEFIC (European Chemical Industry Council), member of the “Network Entrepreneurial and Technological Information” of the Hellenic Federation of Enterprises and member of the Hellenic Association of Chemical Industries.

Dr Arabatzis is also serving as member of the judge panel for The European Business Plan of the Year Competition. He is also evaluating Research Proposals for the European Union Directorate of Research, as a Environmental Nanotechnology expert.

Today, as Managing Director of NanoPhos SA, he is proud to serve his dream by dedicating himself in transferring technology into every day applications, for more than 20 exporting destinations all over the world. He is inventor in 3 patents, author of 1 book and co-author of 24 scientific articles, with more than 500 cited references.

George Christopoulos, Vice Admiral (Engineering) Hellenic Navy (retired), is today is acting as member within the engineering framework of Prisma Electronics S.A. responsible for “Marine Operations with LAROS platform”.

He is Emeritus Commanding Officer of the Support Command of the Hellenic Navy. He held accountable for the operation of the Hellenic Shipyards Scaramanga under the auspices of the Hellenic Navy. He served amongst others as Inspector General of the Hellenic Navy, Chief Technical Officer of the Hellenic Fleet, Frigates Projects Director, Commanding Officer for the commissioning of the new Fast Attack Crafts of the Hellenic Navy at the Elefsis Shipyards and for several years on various warships of the Hellenic Navy, mainly on Frigates.

Instructional and Scientific experience: Professor in the Hellenic Naval Academy in the curriculum of Marine Engineering and Naval Architecture, professorship in Gasdynamics, Internal Combustion Engines, and Marine Gasturbines.

Konstantinos Fanouriadis is representing FARAD SA Heat Exchangers, the only Greek company which designs and manufactures high quality marine and industrial tubular heat exchangers.

Being born in Athens in 1968 and graduated from Technological Educational Institute in 1992. Got his specialized training in Energy Engineering and particularly in calculating, studying and designing Heat Exchangers.

He has also attended numerous seminars and training regarding Shell & Tube Heat Exchangers where he obtained relevant Certification.

From 1989 to 2000 he was a shareholder in D. Fanouriadis & & Co, General Partnership (30%) and from 2001 up until now he is the Managing Director and shareholder in FARAD SA (25%).

Furthermore he is the Quality & Assurance Manager of FARAD SA.

Stavros Hatzigrigoris is the current Managing Director of Maran Gas Maritime Inc., a position which he has held since 2003. For the years 1992 to 2012 he held the position of Managing Director of Maran Tankers Management Inc. Stavros joined Anangel Shipping Enterprises S.A. in 1981 as a Superintendent Engineer.

He holds a B.Sc. degree in Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering from University College London, an M.Sc. degree in Marine Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens and has studied Management of Ship Operations in the University of Strathclyde.

He is Chairman of MARTECMA, a Fellow of the Institute of Marine Engineers and has served as one of the SNAME International Vice Presidents. He is a member of the ABS Technical Committee, the Chairman of the DNV-GL Technical Committee and a member of the Greek Technical Committees of LRS, KR and CCS.

Dr. John Kokarakis has extensive experience in ship design and operations, spanning over thirty years.  He has served in various positions at ABS and Germanischer Lloyd with emphasis in design and construction.

Currently he holds the position of Vice President of Technical Business Development responsible for the South Europe, Africa, Hellenic, Black Sea & Middle East Zone. His work focuses on the implementation of the “green” regulations with specialization in fuel saving techniques.

John is a graduate of National Technical University of Athens, following which he earned a doctorate and MSEs in Naval Architecture and Mechanical Engineering from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, MI.

Sotiris Kokkinos, received his diploma (M.Sc.) in Electrical Engineering & Computer Technology from the University of Patras. Following the sector of Telecommunications & Information Technology he became specialized in computer networks and wireless data transmission.

He holds the license to perform electrical installations of all disciplines & categories as well as studies, supervision of implementation and operation of all mechanical plants. He has proven working experience in the fields of automation, renewable energy sources and telemetry (computer networks and wireless data transmission) by leading the engineering team.

Sotiris Kokkinos is in charge of managing FEAC Engineering PC (CEO - Chief Executive Officer) and is responsible for the business development of the company.

He conducts electromagnetic FEA and was member of FEAC’s core engineering team  for the Design &  Multiphysics Analysis of Superconducting Accelerator Magnets for CERN, for which FEAC has been awarded with the 1st Prize in the prestigious Hall of Fame Worldwide Simulation Competition.

Constantine Koronakis was born in 1965 in Athens. He attended the Moraitis School and continued his studies in Business Administration at the Deree College of Greece.

While a student he started working in his family business, D. Koronakis SA, a 100% family owned company, established by his parents Dimitris and Eleni Koronaki, producing synthetic ropes and wire ropes.

Initially, he was involved with the Production sector and for this reason he travelled around Europe, to famous wire rope plants, like the Casar Factory where he was specialised in the production of hi-tech and specialised wire ropes.

A few years later, Constantine Koronakis having an important degree of knowledge and expertise in Engineering and R&D he designed and launched into the Greek and European Market a revolutionary mooring line for the Shipping Industry, the Kapa Ropes. His passion and continuous effort to create new products gave him the title of “Inventor” when he was awarded by the Industrial Property Organization for his invention,  the “easy-splice-aid” patent in 2003.

Constantine continued his success path by creating new commercial sectors for his Company which could service the Fishing, Aquaculture, Drilling  & Offshore and Yachting Industries worldwide.

He also established a worldwide distribution network by investing in the creation of stock-points in all major ports around the globe  (from Singapore to New York, Las Palmas, Houston, Algeciras, Durban, Rotterdam etc) and thus providing a 24/7 service to his customers.

Since 1992 Constantine Koronakis has the title of C.E.O. in D. Koronakis SA.

He is married with Nicoletta Pavlou and has two sons, Dimitris and Pavlos.

As SeaBright’s managing director, Panagiotis Mallios, is responsible for day-to -day operations as well as leading the company’s long-term strategy. He has more than ten years of experience in the electrical equipment for the marine applications as well as in the lighting industry.

He is also active in the R&D and sales activities of the company. Since October 2006, he has held various positions at SeaBright.

He studied automation engineering at the Piraeus University of applied sciences and also holds certifications of several institutes for specialized automations and advanced lighting technologies.

Vassilis Papageorgiou, Deputy Chairman, Tsakos GroupVassilios Papageorgiou

Vassilis Papageorgiou has an extended technical academic background holding Bachelor of Science degrees in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering and Master of Science degrees in Internal Combustion Engines and Management & Economics.

Mr Papageorgiou initiated his career 50 years ago being employed for a period of 5 years in the prominent – at the time- Greek ship & repair yards of Skaramanga, Perama and Elefsis and being engaged in the supervision of ship repairs and newbuildings. Going after his passion he spent the subsequent five years educationally reinforcing his technical proficiency, whilst concurrently serving onboard vessels. In 1976 and for a period of 4 years he worked for Chalkis Shipyard & Carras Shipping Co attending repairs and New Buildings in Japan and Yugoslavia.  

In 1980 Mr Papageorgiou joined Llloyd’s Register of Shipping initially as a junior Ship & Engine Surveyor in the Far East area. He was the first surveyor of Greek nationality of Lloyd’s Register supervising the construction of newbuildings in Asia. Soon he got promoted to Principal Surveyor, thereafter to Senior Principal Surveyor, a position held for first time by an Engineer of Greek nationality. Successively Lloyd’s Register appointed him in the post of area Managing Director for the wider region of Greece, Balkans & Mid East, again a position held for the first time by a Greek citizen.

After 23 years of service in Lloyd’s Register of Shipping he undertook the role of Vice President in the Tsakos Group of Companies. Among all other responsibilities Mr Papageorgiou retained his focal point of passion; he took over the newbuilding section of the Group and technically led a large scale fleet expansion & renewal plan. For the past 13 years in this position Mr Papageorgiou has overseen the construction of more than 70 vessels of diverse type, range and being constructed in a diverse range of countries. Throughout this period Mr Papageorgiou has been instrumental in raising tanker design specification standards, which thereafter have gradually been established as an industry norm.

Mr Papageorgiou is an active participant in a wide range of technical committees and indisputably he is a prominent and highly respected player in the maritime construction section.

During his 50 years’ long service Mr Papageorgiou is not only distinguished for his broad and diverse industry understanding & expertise but, also for standing out with his astute technical proficiency and capability in driving forward advancements for the maritime industry. He stands out for a better and stronger safety-focused industry an  balances the fragile interface between politics and regulations, and its potential impact on safety; particularly at a period during which continually increasing regulatory requirements might potentially end up having adverse implications on the safety of our people and our environment.

Helen Polychronopoulou, is currently the Executive Vice President of Environmental Protection Engineering (EPE) SA and the Business Development Manager of ERMA FIRST ESK Engineering Solutions SA, designing and producing the ERMA FIRST ballast water treatment systems. 

She is also the co-founder and co-owner of heLeNGi Engineering Ltd, with expertise in a range of applications for the use of liquefied natural gas (LNG). Moreover, she is a member of the Board of Directors of Global Navigation Solutions Greece. 

She has studied chemistry and has more than 18 years of experience in the field of environmental protection, marine equipment, shipping and ship parts industry. She has been the Director of the Research and Development department of EPE SA, where she has developed innovative equipment for the management and treatment of liquid waste and potable water. Then, she moved to the Business Development department where she successfully undertook projects for the expansion of the company in new markets, by introducing new products and services. 

Currently, she is involved in expanding the new markets being the President of the Hellenic Marine Equipment Manufacturers & Exporters – HEMEXPO. 

She is also a member of the Women’s International Shipping and Trading Association (WISTA), member of the Mediterranean Committee of China Classification Society (CCS) and member of the Board of Directors of the Hellenic Institute of Marine Technology (HIMT). 

Eleni has recently been honored as the ‘Greek Pioneer Entrepreneur of the year 2015’, awarded by Ernst & Young. Finally, she has been a member of the Greek IMO Delegation at MEPC and D&E sub-committees, the Vice President of the Association of Environmental Protection Companies in Greece (PASEPPE) and the national representative for the European Business Environment Awards.

From March 2000 to September 2012, served as Professor of Maritime Studies at the Merchant Marine Academy of Aspropyrgos – Deck Officers’ Department.

Is a holder of Master Degree in Shipping from Piraeus University (2010).

Is a Certified Trainer on Bridge Simulators and ECDIS by Transas and Certified Auditor on ISM/ISPS/ISO 9001 & 14001.

Attends regularly Company vessels for onboard training and representation on behalf of Arcadia, at SIRE Vetting Inspections and Class/Flag Surveys.

He is married with two kids, boy (9) and girl (6) and lives in Athens, Hellas.

Konstantinos Stampedakis is a Chemical and Process Engineer, graduate of the University of Surrey. Having completed his post-graduate studies (MSc in Water and Environmental Engineering) and having acquired further academic experiences as a temporary academic assistant at the university, he began his career in the sector of waste and potable water management. Returning to Greece, he joined Environmental Protection Engineering S.A. as the Director of Research, Development and Engineering Department.

In 2009, Konstantinos co-founded ERMA FIRST S.A. and he currently holds the position of the Managing Director & Director of Research, Development and Engineering Dpt.

One of his greatest achievements is the development of ERMA FIRST Ballast Water Treatment System. The main aim of the project has been to research and develop methodologies and technologies for preventing the introduction of nonindigenous species through ships’ ballast water.
